Pie chart analysis on littering
Above is a pie chart that has been drawn according the total amount of litters we have collected at Pantai Morib Beach. The litters are categorized into different segments representing glass, metal, paper, plastic, cigarette butts, clothing and others.
By looking at the graph, we can conclude that there was an enormous amount of plastic found as it consist 44.1% of the total amount. Possible reasons for plastic to be the most common litter because it is light and visitors aren't bothered to look for a bin. Therefore, they just leave their plastic items such as water bottles, plastic bags, food wrapper etc at the beach. This can be a bad affect to the shore as long shore drift is happening at the beach. Therefore, the plastics would eventually end up in the sea endangering marine life. Besides, this factor can also affect the appearance of the beach as it is not biodegradable.
As for cigarette butts, they make up the second highest percentage in the graph. A common reason for the smokers to litter is because they think cigarette butts are just like paper which will eventually bio degrade. But sadly, cigarette butts are made up of a fibrous material called cellulose acetates(a kind of plastic) which takes at least 2 months - 8 years to fully bio-degrade. Another reason why visitors to Pantai Morib are discarding it inappropriately is there's hardly any bin located at the beach. This would have encourage smokers to litter as it is too troublesome to look for a bin.
Surprising, there are only a few amount of metals such as aluminium found at the beach. Possible reasons for this to happen would be visitors have also brought the used metal home as it is able to be recycled or exchange for money if they collect these items. People avoid littering if they feel there is some money to be made.
Lastly, paper comes in the 4th place with 10% in the pie chart. Even tough papers are commonly used in a variety of product, paper is hardly seen lying around as it is able to bio-degradable. Therefore, when humans have discarded the paper made products it would eventually biodegrade.

- People can’t be bothered or too lazy to find a bin
- People have no sense of pride in their community
- The bins are not suitable for disposing cigarette butts
- There is a lack of education / poor parenting of young people
