RECOMMENDATIONS
Firstly, I believe that there is a great potential for Pantai Morib to live up its name as the Gold Coast of Malaysia if it is managed sustainably. When i went on a field trip to Pantai Morib, i was shocked by the scenery of the "Gold Coast's" beach. There were rubbishes everywhere. It was my first visit and i was totally dissappointed. From a perspective of a visitor, i don't think i would go for another visit as the place was really bad. Plus, there was a big trash bin nearby therefore we were welcomed by a terrible scent as soon as we arrived.
In my opinion, the main focus of transforming Pantai Morib into a bustling tourist destination should start with the cleanliness of the environment. It will only attract more tourists if the area of litters are reduced and become more attractive.
The power of one is not enough, therefore everyone should unite together to make Pantai Morib a better place. Locals who live in the area should always pick up the litters if they see one. Besides, they should always give a good impression to the visitors by throwing their unwanted items in a right way after they had fun at the beach instead of burning them in the open air. This act has also shown that the residence and locals are not aware of danger they have caused themselves.
To stop this, government bodies and the NGOs(non governmental organization) should educate the locals how to discard the rubbishes appropriately and put up do not litter signs to make sure people do not litter. Also, the government should start considering to increase the fine for littering to make people aware of the importance of cleanliness of the environment. This might be the only way to make people think before littering as they will lose money for their silly behaviour. Besides, the government should also provide more rubbish bins at the beach. In my opinion, there should also be bins for smokers to specially litter the cigarette butts. It should be placed around the area that has most human interaction.
Referring to the kite diagram, there are also many litter at the mangrove swamp area which seldom have any human interactions/activities. But due to long shore drift, the litters from the more popular site have been washed to the North ( mangrove swamp) as well. Therefore, the local authorities should hire employees who remain at the North of the beach cleaning the litters that are carried from the South. The reason is because i realized there are more litters in areas where group 4,5 and 6 were which means the cleaners are only focusing on cleaning the areas where visitors will usually go. They are not even bothered to go further to clean up.
The government bodies should also do their part in replacing and/or maintaining the 2 sea defenses at the beach. Most notably the revetment that has to be replaced as it is in terrible condition. This has made the beach look unattractive as the cracks in the concrete are showing and it is slowly falling apart. The rip-rap next to the revetment should also be replaced as it is very dilapidated like the revetment.
Also, it will be better if the state government build groynes instead of rip raps. It would last longer and the appearance of the groynes are definitely better than the rip raps. Groynes are better because they will be structured at a right angle which can prevent long shore drift which can help to reduce sands being carried away. Besides, building a groyne can also help to absorb energy from the waves that causes coastal erosion. If everything is done right, the groynes will serve the beach well and would also compliment people visiting Pantai Morib.
Another recommendation will be about the sea wall. The sea wall was built a long time ago and as expected, the rocks are starting to erode. Therefore, i strongly recommend the officials to improve the seawall as well inorder to be efficient in preventing the erosion.
Last but not least, i think beach nourishment will also be a good way of making the beach look more attractive as it will prolong the process of erosion by dumping sands from somewhere else. To make it clear, beach nourishment does not prevent erosion, it will only extend the time before the beach is completely 'eaten up' by the waves. Beach nourishment will also provide tourists with new sands as one of the current problems Pantai Morib faces is the sand is dirty.
In conclusion, I believe that Pantai Morib can be a great tourist destination if it is sustained properly by the government and locals.
